While famous for its trucks, Mack Truck also built many fire trucks, holding a prominent position as a fire apparatus manufacturer for more than 80 years.
This history, combined with high-quality images of the trucks, tells the complete story of the Mack fire truck line-up. All models are covered with images from the archives of Mack, including a color section.
Many books about Mack Trucks have been written, but this is the only book available that focuses on the full line-up of Mack's durable fire trucks.
An essential reference for both Mack Truck enthusiasts and fire apparatus enthusiasts.
160 pages, 378 photos, 8.5'' x 11''
Harvey Eckart, the acknowledged “dean of Mack fire truck lore,” has compiled this profusely illustrated survey featuring 337 black-and-white factory photos and a special 16-page section offering 48 color photos of some of these trucks in service. Eckart notes it was not his purpose to present a detailed history of Mack, but to offer an illustrated history of one specific product line—fire trucks. Billed as not merely a picture book, each of the 14 chapters tells the story through a brief introduction, as well as informative captions for the numerous photos. The preface offers a brief two-page corporate history with more than a page of it focusing on fire apparatus. Chapters take a chronological approach to cover the fire truck models based on when they were produced. The Early Years chapter starts the story in 1911 followed by chapters covering the various models based on a corresponding commercial truck series: AB (1914–30), AC/AP/AL (1916–30), Early B (1928–37), E (1937–50), L (1940–54), A (1950–56), B (1954–66), C (1957–67), Super Pumper System (1965), R (1966–90), MB/MC (1972–90), and CF 1967–90). Miscellaneous, the final chapter, surveys specialized fire trucks. Eleven of the chapters also include a text box with additional detailed information.
