By John Kelly

Founded by James J. Hill in 1889, Great Northern was in the forefront of developing and promoting western tourism to Glacier National Park. The railroad's slogan, ''See America First,'' was featured along with the mascot ''Rocky'' on freight cars and advertising. Today, Amtrak’s Empire Builder offers daily service between Chicago and the Pacific Northwest. Noted author John Kelly has selected from the BNSF Railway archives and his own extensive collection to gather nearly 200 photographs, period advertising pieces, and related GN material such as maps, timetables, and travel brochures that showcase the streamlined Empire Builder as well as the Oriental Limited, Cascadian, International and Western Star passenger trains.
