Dodge (now Ram) has found the key to light-duty pickup success: “big truck” styling. There was a time when Dodge made big trucks. This book tells that story with 121 vintage black-and-white images that date to the forerunner of Dodge trucks, a 1928 Graham Bros. truck, through to the final 1975 Big Horn 900 and 950 models. The cover features the iconic Big Horn 950. The photographs include a variety of models, engine closeups, cab interiors, and instrument panels. Providing a wealth of detailed information, Don Bunn’s chronological narrative is broken into three chapters. “Chapter 1: Dodge Brothers Heavy-Duty Trucks” traces the story from 1928 through the 1947 offerings. “Chapter 2: B-Series to Power Giants” covers the 1948 B-series to the 1959 M-series Power Giants. “Chapter 3: Diesel Power Giants” concludes with coverage of gas and diesel Power Giants and the final heavy-duty offerings. As Bunn explains, “early in the 1975 model year, Chrysler management chose to pull the plug on the heavy-duty truck business” because the company’s “light- and medium-duty trucks were selling so well.” Creating some confusion, Bunn asserts the 1975 models “never came to pass,” “never happened,” and were “not to be,” but he indicates a “handful were built and sold.”
