I know Vintage Truck magazine is “Dedicated to the Preservation of Light Commercial Vehicles.” However, with Ertel’s acquisition of Enthusiast Books, there are titles in the Gift Shop that offer more. Consider expanding your own interests by adding this title to your bookshelf. Part of the Enthusiast Books Photo History Series, this digest-size paperbound, initially published in 2001, lives up to that subtitle with 174 small, black-and-white photos and brief captions. A variety of trucks includes conventional and cab over engine (COE) fire trucks, wreckers, crane carriers, dump trucks, and tractor trailer units. The chronologically based coverage, divided into 10 chapters, begins in 1948 with the introduction of Ford’s F-series and the addition of trucks beyond the 11/2- to two-ton models Ford offered. Listings provide details for only some of the model years: 1951 accessories, 1952 specifications for F-5 through F-8 models, 1965 retail truck prices, and 1965 popular options prices. The generally informative text covers each model year, but that means only a single paragraph for some years. The narrative concludes with 1998 and the end of heavy-duty Ford production replaced by Sterling. We now know of Sterling’s demise and Ford’s current Class 6 and Class 7 F-650 and F-750 offerings.
