Originally published in 1998, this 2013 reprint features over 100 black-and-white photographs of Dodge pickups. In a limited two-page introduction, editor Don Bunn identifies the brief highlights of the various eras for Dodge trucks covered: Job Rated 1939–47, Pilot House 1948–53, C-series 1954–56, Power Giant 1957–60, Sweptline 1961–71, and the Life Style Era 1972–78. In the introduction, Bunn focuses on Chrysler’s reputation for engineering with a nod to the “Triumvirate” of Fred Zeder, Owen Skelton, and Carl Breer. However, their specific contributions are not detailed with the exception of their role in the mid-1930s development of a diesel engine used in three-ton capacity models only—a story that consumes a significant portion of the introduction but lies beyond the story of Dodge pickup trucks. The landscape format book’s aim is to offer an album of photographs. It does that very well with a one-per-page array of images offering a visual guide to each era. While not credited (but for five exceptions), the photographs must be from Chrysler archives. However, the book’s fine image quality contrasts with the brief captions—typically 20 words in length—that provide only sparse factual information.
