Part of the Iconografix Photo Archive series, this book, published in 2000, provides 122 black-and-white photographs and very brief captions ranging from a mere two to a maximum of 49 words. The one-page introduction also includes the table of contents. Those interested in a text-rich Jeep history of the years covered will need to look elsewhere. The book visually traces the entire range of Jeeps from 1941 to 2000. Author Peter C. Sessler divides the book’s photo coverage into these sections: Military Jeeps, The CJ and Wrangler 1944–2000, Jeepster 1948–1951, Jeepster Commando 1967–1973, Jeep Sedan Delivery/Station Wagon 1947–1965, Jeep Truck 1947–1965, 1957–1964 Forward Control (FC) Trucks, 1963–1987 Jeep Gladiator/J-Series, 1963–1991 Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer, Jeep Cherokee 1974–1983 and 1984–2000, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 1995–2000. The photographs include a variety of examples of each of the Jeep models produced as well as three illustrating Grand Cherokee assembly in 1999. While the more recent Jeeps will look familiar, the 12 photographs of the military Jeeps will likely prove intriguing. While they are from a number of collections, most are corporate publicity photographs, with a few exceptions. Photograph reproduction could benefit from the use of paper with a glossier finish.
